Intuitive

Mission Statement:
Construction, Deconstruction, Reconstruction.

I have been a painter for a few decades and have transitioned as all artists should through the years.  My current transition is  from Representational to Intuitive.  The past few years I have become restless and with new life circumstances I have the need to explore myself beyond the expected. What a more perfect venue than to do this through my art. As I look at any artwork today, I want to find myself pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised. I wish to find myself feeling the art rather than dissecting it's process. My intention is to reach this with my own work.  My new transition began with renown artist Holly Roberts in 2005. Through her guidance I embarked on a new journey in the exploration of execution and psyche.  It seems I get closer to this by discovering the human condition...mostly, my own.

As I approach a piece, I begin without any preconceived idea or subject in mind.  I will sit and stare at the canvas like a writer at a blank page.  And then whatever comes, comes.  I may be influenced by things that happened that day or something I read, or music I listen to or simply, LIFE.  I may start with a canvas I have applied left over paint to from my palette and go with what I might see already in it.
Within the life of the final painting may be three or four or more paintings underneath with bits of each exposed. This process is the construction, then deconstruction, and the rebuilding or reconstruction. As I look at the final result, I look as a viewer for the first time. I have no idea the intention from the artist but looking upon the finished painting, I the artist will then construct a story.  It is the human condition.  What is the story that you see?
